Buenos Aires Province Elections: Meet the Candidates on the Interactive Map

This year’s legislative elections in the Province of Buenos Aires come with a particularity: for the first time since the return to democracy in 1983, they will be held on a different date from the national elections. This split was established by a decree from Governor Axel Kicillof, who set the provincial elections for September 7 — nearly a month and a half before the national elections, scheduled for October 26.
As at the national level, there will be no primary elections (PASO) in the province. However, unlike the national vote, the newly approved single-paper ballot system will not be used. Instead, voters will continue to cast their ballots using the traditional party ballot. On September 7, voters in Buenos Aires Province will elect provincial legislators, city council members, and school board representatives. Then, on October 26, they will return to the polls to choose national deputies.
Composition of the Buenos Aires Legislature
The Buenos Aires Legislature is composed of 92 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, of which 46 will be renewed in this election, and 46 seats in the Senate, of which 23 will be renewed. Each electoral section elects only one chamber at a time, alternating every four years. This year, Senate seats are up for election in the First Section (8 seats), Fourth Section (7), Fifth Section (5), and Seventh Section (3). Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies will be renewed in the Second Section (11 seats), Third Section (18), Sixth Section (11), and Eighth Section or Capital (6).
