The Opening Extractives Global Meeting Brought Together Countries from Three Continents

Directorio Legislativo’s Executive Director, Noel Alonso, participated in the Opening Extractives Programme Global Peer Learning Exchange, an international event organized by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and Open Ownership, held on November 17–18 in Yerevan, Armenia.

The event brought together representatives from Armenia, Argentina, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Liberia, Mongolia, Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia, who exchanged lessons learned and challenges related to beneficial ownership transparency in the extractive sector. The sessions reviewed the progress of the Opening Extractives program, which seeks to strengthen the availability, quality, and use of beneficial ownership data to prevent corruption, improve regulations, and promote stronger institutions.

The agenda combined high-level panels with technical working sessions on data interoperability, registry digitalization, information verification, and coordination among public agencies. National teams also presented their main achievements and outlined commitments to sustain and institutionalize the reforms promoted by the program in the medium term.

Alonso Murray’s participation reaffirms Directorio Legislativo’s role in advancing public policies that promote transparency, open data, and democratic strengthening. For Argentina, exchanging experiences with other countries is particularly valuable: the effective use of beneficial ownership data can provide key tools to improve licensing processes, audits, and sector oversight, and to ensure that decisions on natural resources are made with greater integrity and accountability.

The Global Peer Learning Exchange marked a new step in consolidating an international community committed to ensuring that the disclosure of beneficial ownership information becomes a cornerstone of fairer and more transparent governance.
