Post-election Report: Simultaneous and Compulsory Open Primary Elections
Sunday’s primary elections saw the emergence of a ‘third party scenario’ in Argentina with the three most voted-for political blocs separated by just under 3% points. However, the highlight of the day was the performance of the Liberal candidate, Javier Milei, who triumphed not just in an individual sense but through his Libertad Avanza coalition securing over 30% of the vote. Trailing in second place on 28.27% was Juntos por el Cambio, which had been tipped for victory and whose hardline candidate Patricia Bullrich saw off ther more moderate rival Horacio Rodriguez Larreta to become its pick for the October general elections. Finally, in third place came the ruling alliance with 27.27% of the vote, spearheaded by current Minister of Economy Sergio Massa.
