Post-elections: Presidential elections in Colombia
Colombia’s May 2026 presidential elections saw a historic voter turnout of 57.8%, the highest in the country’s recent history. Right-wing radical and outsider candidate Abelardo de la Espriella led the first round with 43.7% of the vote, surpassing the government-backed candidate Iván Cepeda, who received 40.9%. The results reflect a deep polarization that has sidelined centrist options and shifted traditional right-wing voters toward more radical proposals. Both candidates, representing antagonistic national models, will compete for the presidency in a runoff election on June 21
