Preelection: Legislative elections in Colombia

On March 8, Colombia will renew its entire Congress (103 seats in the Senate and 183 in the Chamber of Representatives) for the 2026–2030 term and will hold three inter-party primaries that will shape the presidential field ahead of the May 31 election.

Projections point to a fragmented Congress with no single-party majorities. Although the ruling Pacto Histórico could consolidate its position as the largest minority bloc, it would remain far from controlling both chambers on its own, making cross-party legislative agreements necessary.

The electoral landscape also suggests a likely runoff on June 21, amid growing polarization. The March 8 results will therefore serve as an initial political barometer for the race to the Casa de Nariño.
